type of governing body does De Soto have?
The City government of De Soto is constantly
working toward improved administration of the community they serve.
The De Soto Governing Body consists of a Mayor and five City Council
Members.

Where is City Hall located?
City Hall is located at 32905 W. 84th
Street in De Soto and is also home to the Community Center and
Senior Citizens Center.

Where do I
pay my utility bills?
Utility
bills can be mailed to the appropriate utility companies. For
residents who are provided water and/or trash service by the
City
of De Soto, you can pay your water bill at City Hall or at their
drop box located outside City Hall.
In addition, automatic payment services are available.

Where is the Chamber
and EDC office located?
The De Soto
Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council office is
located at 33150 W. 83rd Street. This location is also home
to the De Soto Fire Department and is the former City Hall.

of health care providers are in De Soto?
De
Soto is home to a variety of health care providers, such as a
family health care center, dental center, eye care provider, chiropractor,
and psychiatrist. For more information about local health care
providers, please see the Membership Directory.
In addition, De Soto is within five minutes of an additional
family health care center. Many other health care facilities are
conveniently located within 20 minutes, such as Olathe Medical
Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Shawnee Mission
Medical Center and Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

medical emergencies, dial 911. The De Soto Fire Department, staffed
with an around-the-clock Emergency Medical Technician, provides
Basic Life Support care. Johnson
County Med-Act also responds with Paramedics, providing Advanced
Life Support care and transportation.

What
recreational activities are found in De Soto?
Acres
of city and county parks generate an abundance of year-round activities
in De Soto. Miller Memorial Park offers outdoor enthusiasts
walking trails, baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts,
playgrounds and city pool. Miller Park is the setting for many
civic events throughout the year.
The
newly dedicated Kill Creek Park, located at the southern
edge of the city, features 850 acres of hiking trails through
largely undeveloped prairie and lowland vistas. A new lake is
brimming with small trout, bass and catfish. The 26.5 acre lake
features a swimming beach and bathhouse as well as a marina.
Sunflower
Park
is a 60-acre park with natural prairie grasses, a lake and nature
trails including a trail for the physically challenged.
With immediate access to the Kansas River, the City of De Soto is
currently constructing a new Boat Ramp, which is scheduled to
be completed in May, 2006.

Until it is
officially opened, the gates to the park will be locked and access
is denied due to the construction.

Two
golf courses are located within the city limits of De Soto. Burning
Tree Golf Course, the citys 9-hole course, runs
along the Kansas River and features beautifully manicured fairway
sand greens for the experienced and duffer. Oak Country Club
is a beautiful 18-hole course and boasts its signature "Island
Green".
Regional
attractions within minutes from De Soto include the Kansas City
Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, Worlds of Fun, Union Station/Science
City. Newest attractions within the area include the Kansas Speedway
and the T-Bones baseball team. A De Soto resident also enjoys
theatre, ballet and symphonic performances in Kansas City and
on the Lawrence campus of Kansas University.
